The Gene Mann Years (1947 - 1951)
Not much theater happened at the Greek in its early years of existence. Indeed, for the first 20 years the theater had minimal use. Many referred to it as a great white elephant in the great big park. If was neglected and fell into disrepair.

Gene Mann Presents 1947 - 1951
In 1947 - 1950 the Parks Commission leased the theater to Gene Mann. Gene Mann directed several light opera and ballets. The City invested $153,000 in improvements. As managing director of the Greek Theater - Mann brought in a series of musical attractions with big names for the lead parts.
